Importance of Multi-Functional Spaces

The one thing that 2020 has shown us is that our lifestyle can change at any moment. It has to be said that even before Covid-19, increasing number of people were working from home thanks to technologies like Zoom, FaceTime and Google Hangouts. Even for us as real estate agents, we went paperless 3 years ago, we no longer need to meet with clients to sign or go over paperwork, everything can be done virtually. During this pandemic, we also purchased our first property completely virtually, showing the property via video, to paperwork and closing.

All this to say that now that most people work from home, it makes less sense to dedicate whole rooms to just one purpose. Alternative being, the sudden surge towards the suburbs which offers more space, bigger backyards and lower prices than Toronto, which we have been seeing plenty off. In fact last night we were in the middle of an offer presentation for a detached house in Newmarket, there were 23 competing offers!!

Who knows how long this surge will last, but I believe Covid-19 has forever changed the landscape of work and social lifestyle, even with the coming of vaccine. So I don’t agree with many that say suburbs are hot right now but will die down again, I think this is the look of the future.

Nevertheless, if you still want to stay in the city and are lacking the space for a dedicated home office, I would look into multifunctional spaces. As this dining room meets office shows, courtesy of IKEA, little changes such as hanging storage can make the difference.
